Hello,
and welcome to my blog. I am the Chardi Kala Wife, and it is my life that I blog about.
I am sure some of you are wondering what Chardi Kala means: “Chardi Kala loosely means having a “positive, buoyant and optimistic” attitude to life and to the future. Historically, in Punjabi and for Sikhs, it is synonymous to “resilience” and is an expression encouraging strength in the face of fear or pain.”
The Good Life, La Dolce Vita and other names I considered were taken, but considering I am married to a North Indian man and lead a life filled with challenges, trials and at times drama – My Chardi Kala Life sums up our situation wonderfully.
I started this blog as a continuation of my previous blogs about my intercultural relationship & marriage with my Sikh husband. This blog is set to be a positive, optimistic and resilient place for me. A place to share, to discuss, and to grow as I grab hold of this thing called life and embark upon setting up our life as an Australian Punjabi family.
In this blog I will share information about daily life in India & Australia, setting up your house, Indian festivals, food and the general excitement and beauty of our life through photos. I will also attempt to share any tips and tutorials that I think others may be interested in!
I write this blog not just for myself, or for my sanity – but for others in a similar situation, others in a relationship with an Indian and for anyone that wants to know more about life in Punjab.
I hope that you will enjoy reading as I enjoy living and narrating the journey that is My Chardi Kala Life.
Feel free to write to me at bad bhabhi @ gmail . com (without the spaces).
Also check out the latest posts, or the archives that entail where it all began. There is a search function in the right sidebar, as well as categories listed for your viewing access!
I am also compiling a resources page, where I share other blogs, websites, and videos that I find interesting!

I ´m so happy to find your blog again. Wish you a wonderful life in Amritsar. Please keep on blogging.
Can you please send me a mail? My husband is also from Punjab and I found here no option to contact you.
I think blogging is a compulsion for me, which is probably good for those that like reading my ramblings.

Hi The Chardi Kala Wife, Sorry I posted a blank comment and accidentally hit the submit button. I just wanted to wish you well on your big move to Amritsar. Looking forward to meeting you soon.
Have a safe trip,
Nicky Singh.
Thanks Nicky, I will be sure to be in touch! x
This is the first blog I’ve come across of this kind (albeit I don’t look at blogs much), but I have really enjoyed reading your posts. I’ve looked at only a few so far, but I love the diversity of topics and your writing is indeed very insightful. I really admire your desire to adapt to life in Punjab and the huge culture change… Good luck with it all
Thank you so much! There are lots of blogs in the same realm as mine that talk about living in India (if you see the desi links group in the right sidebar there are lots there) but the outlook of my blog was intentionally different!
I like my blog to be a mostly positive and casually informative place where allll are welcome! x
Hey I just came across your blog and really felt like I could relate to you. I am of Indian origin myself but I was born and raised in the uk. I recently got married to a punjabi man who wants me to move with him to Punjab. This is a huge step for me and I’m really scared as I have never visited India myself. It would be great If I could talk to you- hopefully hear from you soon,
Mandeep.
I just found your blog. You are a beautiful lady and your husband is also very handsome! I love the Sikhs and I also try to have a chardi kala life.
Greetings from California, United States.
Thanks Paula! Greetings from Australia!
